Dolly Parton, Eminem, A Tribe Called Quest, and Beck were among the first to be nominated in the voting for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This is important for us. Because there is Eminem too.
The list of 17 potential members spanning rap, country, folk, pop, and more, includes seven previously unseen artists.
Among them are Duran Duran, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon – plus 10 recurring nominations yet to be rated: Pat Benatar, Kate Bush, Devo, Eurythmics, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Dionne Warwick.
More than 1,000 singers, historians, and music industry professionals will vote to narrow this huge list. The results of the votes will be announced in May. But, five or seven of the artists who qualify for this list will be selected 25 years after the release of their first commercial record.
On the other hand Jay-Z, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Notorious B.I.G. and Janet Jackson were recently chosen. John Sykes, the chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, called the latest nominees “a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture.”

According to the nytimes, there are criteria required of Rock Hall voters. Innovation and superiority in style and style, technique, the effect of moves in music, the length and depth of his career are among the most important criteria to be considered. Because, these criteria are believed to be the most decisive factors for deserving the award.
Eminem has the distinction of being the only artist to be nominated in his first eligibility year this year.

Previous nominees that were not nominated and not on the longlist this year include Mary J. Blige, Soundgarden, the Replaces, Bad Brains, Motörhead, Dave Matthews Band, Thin Lizzy, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane’s Addiction, John Prine, Iron Maiden, Smiths and Gram Parsons.
