Lil Nas X Is Pretty Frustrated With Betting Candidates
The nominees for the 2022 BET Awards were announced today, and Lil Nas X has been nowhere to be found.
In a series of tweets that have since been deleted, the rapper called the network to nudge him once again, despite the success of his debut album Montero, which spawned hit singles like “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow.
“Thank you betting prizes. again an outstanding zero nomination,” he tweeted, adding that “black perfection!”

Lil Nas X Defends Deserving of Award
When someone asked why he deserved to be nominated, Nas applauded with receipts. “idk is perhaps 3 of the biggest songs of the past year and an album that has received critical acclaim,” he said. “I feel like that should help me a little bit.”

Another person claimed that he shouldn’t be eligible because he was a “pop artist” and said, “It’s no crime but you’re literally a Caucasian persuasion and you’re trying to train me on a awards show that I’ve watched all my childhood + not hip hop awards + there’s a pop category.”
According to Nas, wit isn’t just about him. “I don’t even need to be nominated,” the openly gay rapper wrote on Wednesday, which is also the first day of Pride Month. “I just feel like the black gay ppl has to fight to be seen in this world, and I try to act like we’re invisible even when we get into the top mfs.”
Although he did not participate in the show, he joked that he would be “selling fish plates outside of the betting prizes this year.”
This is the second year in a row that Nas has been blocked. In 2020, he was nominated for Best New Artist, but lost.
Nas presented one of the most talked-about moments of last year’s BET Awards when he sang “Montero.” In 2019, she sang her record-breaking hit “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus.
