Lizzo Changes Lyrics To “GRRRLS” Because Of Criticisms

Lizzo listened to her fans. She saw some reactions from her fans online and changed some of the lyrics in her new song.

Criticism came for GRRRLS, the last track of the singer’s new album Special. On Friday, June 10, the reactions began to come. Lizzo was criticized by disappointed fans for her use of strong language. In the opening episode, she used a harsh term for cerebral palsy, also known as spastic diplegia.

Fans and disability advocates reacted strongly on social media. She saw the reaction and listened to all concerns. She issued a written apology Monday.

“It has been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song GRRRLS. Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language,” she wrote. “As a fat black woman in America, I have had many hurtful words used against me so I understand the power words can have (whether intentionally, or in my case, unintentionally).”

Also, Lizzo said she’s proud to release an updated version.
