Tyrese defends Will Smith over Eddie Murphy’s Oscars slap joke
The Fast & Furious star Tyrese has shown off his love and respect for Will Smith after Eddie Murphy used Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star’s name in his acceptance speech.
For those unaware, at the 94th Academy Awards in March 2022, Will Smith walked on the stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Smith, who has been open about her struggle with hair loss from alopecia. At the time, a lot of rap artists showed off their reaction to the moment, making jokes about it.

Recently, Eddie Murphy joked about Will Smith’s slapping Chris Rock at the 2023 Golden Globes. Reflecting on his existence in the business for over 45 years, the comedian thanked his close circle, family, and friends. However, while reaching the end of his speech, Murphy made the audience recall Smith’s slapping Chris Rock and joked about the moment, saying: “It’s very simple, just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your fucking mouth!”
After Murphy joked about the incident, Tyrese took to his official Instagram account to show that he was standing along with Will Smith. Sharing a photo of him and Smith, the world-known actor stated that he was proud of defending the same thought with his influence.

“I’m still team WILL SMITH,” Tyrese writes on his Instagram caption. “There’s nobody on this earth that will ever influence me to ever have a change of heart towards the BIGGEST INFLUENCE in my life.”
Continuing to talk about Will Smith and his influence, Tyrese said that Smith’s latest movie, Emancipation, was a masterpiece: “I’m just saying man…. Move on already I just watched EMANCIPATION for the 3rd time I just can’t believe how masterful this overall movie is.”
Over 50,000 people liked Tyrese’s Instagram post. Furthermore, there were more than 650 people commented on the post to share their thoughts about Tyrese’s comment on Will Smith’s movement. Most people were there to share the same feelings with Tyrese and Will Smith himself.

That was not the first time Tyrese talked about Smith’s slapping Chris Rock. As you remember, Smith shared a five-minute apology video about a comedian and his family, and Rock responded to it. However, in the video’s comment section, Tyrese sent his love for the actor, looking understanding about the moment.
“After 3 months [ as so much other STUFF has happened in the world ] he’s been paused and put in mental, emotional and traumatic prison ] because when you actually CARE for people and how you effect them from your WORDS and CHOICES you lose a LOT of sleep over those very mistakes,” Tyrese says.
“Will Smith if you see this message big bro the real ones out here love you and have never ever stopped loving you because we know you are HUMAN.”
